Moreh inferno reduces 18 houses to cinders

MOREH, February 26: A total of 18 houses were reduced to cinders this early morning by a devastating fire around 3:30am at Moreh Ward No 1. The exact location of the inferno lies between the DC road that runs from the H/H 39 (2) tribal Welfare Area and a by-lane that runs from the DC road.

More than 39 families reside in the house plots that were devastated by the fire taking the total of affected persons to 200. However there is no report of loss of life, though few of the fire fighters reportedly received minor injuries while trying to control the fire.

According to a complaint of the Hill Tribe Council made to the Addl Deputy Commissioner, properties worth crores of rupees including cash were destroyed by the fire.

The HTC statement has also enclosed a list of the items destroyed by the fire.

It further continued that the victims are lodged/housed at the newly constructed (not completed) Tourist Guest House at Moreh ward no. 1 which is operating as a temporary relief centre and an office is opened at the Church campus of Chongthu Baptist Church, Moreh ward no. 2, HTC Unit – IV.

While assuring of all possible help from the community leaders, the HTC statement has appealed to the Addl DC to look into the misfortune of the victims and take up necessary actions.
