New IMC Chairman promises Green City

IMPHAL, February 5: With SDO W Malemnganba who is also the Returning Officer having received nominations for the appointment of the Imphal Municipal Council Chairperson yesterday, the Returning Officer today declared Councillor of Ward no 18, Aribam Nimai as the new Chairman.
Four months after a ‘No Confidence Motion’ was move against the former Imphal Municipal Council, Chairperson N Raghumani on September 5, 2012, nominations for the appointment of a new chairman was held yesterday at the Lamphelpat office of the SDO.
Declaring Councillor Aribam Nimai as the only candidate for the post and his subsequent appointment as the Chairman, the SDO also handed him the certificate for his appointment today.
Meanwhile, speaking to media persons at the IMC office after his appointment, the new Chairman said that he will try his level best to turn Imphal City into a Green City as is the vision of the state Chief Minister.
Regarding the present salary issue of the IMC staffs, he said he will urge the government to provide extra budget to the council so that the backlog salaries of the employees are cleared at the earliest.
He also assured to take up development works in all wards under the council.
It may be mentioned that there are 27 elected councillors who are eligible for the post of IMC Chairperson.
Ward no. 18 Councillor Aribma Nimai Sharma who was elected uncontested as chairperson of the Imphal Municipal council was received today evening at the office of the ward development committee, ward no 18 Brahmapur Aribam Leikai.
