SAIKUL, February 19 (NNN): Black topping work from Saikul bazaar to Molkon Bridge will be started very soon as Rs 3 crore for the purpose has been released by Manipur Government.
The 13 km-long road stretch from Saikul bazaar to Molkon Bridge includes a bailey bridge on the Imphal-Saikul road in Senapati district. A new bridge is now under construction to replace the old bailey bridge.
On January 28, a public rally was staged in Saikul demanding the state Government for black topping of Sagolmang to Saikul road stretch which is now in bad condition. The protest rally was jointly organized by Saikul Block’s Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Kuki Inpi, Saikul Women Union and Saikul Hill Town.
On Tuesday, Thangkam Lupheng, president, Kuki Inpi, Saikul Block told Newmai News Network here that though the state Government has not yet planned for black topping the entire Imphal-Saikul road, it has sanctioned an amount of Rs 3 crore for black topping Saikul bazaar to Molkon Bridge first.
He said on behalf of the Saikul people, he thanked Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh for his initiative toward that end.
Lupheng further urged the Government to take up necessary steps for black topping the whole road stretch from Sagolmang to Saikul bazaar within the current year.
Requesting the Saikul, Karong, Khundrakpam and Ukhrul constituencies MLAs to extend their optimal support and create inventiveness toward developing the road, he said all these four constituencies use this road as their lifeline.
