IMPHAL, February 16: Unidentified person set on fire the newly constructed Kuttcha school building of Poireikonjen Junior High School at Yairipok Poreikonjen under the Yairipok police station today early morning at around 3 am. Speaking to the media at the site of the fire, M Rajendro Head Master of school said that the school had been newly built at the reserved place for the school building, next to the old Pakka school and completed in 2011.
He further said the school might have been put on fire by some unidentified persons today in the class 1 section (A) by using petrol as they have found some traces nside the class room which might have been thrown from outside the window of the class room.
The fire alert happened only because a newspaper hawker of the locality passing by the area saw smoke and flames. Locals of the surrounding area controlled and put off the fire before it could spread to the other class rooms without which there could have been major damage to the school building, he said
T Kalachand, the Convenor of the school management committee said that the incident is unfortunate incidents and each and every section of the society in the state should condemn the act.
