Sit-in against assault on woman sweeper continues

IMPHAL, February 11: Demanding befitting punishment for contractor Kangjam Nilchandra for his alleged physical assault of a woman sweeper, a group of women today staged a sit in protest in front of the Lamphelpat Court Complex of the Judicial Magistrate 1st Class/Imphal Ojesh Mutum today.

Contractor Kangjam Nilachandra (58) son of K Pishak Singh of Malom Bazar had allegedly physically assaulted a sweeper of the Essential Employment Service identified on December 21, 2012 at the Tulihal Airport.

According to a woman protestor, Nilachandra is an EES authorised contractor at the Imphal Tulihal Airport till 2013.

She elaborated that the incident happened when the woman victim who had been a sweeper at the airport under the ESS for more than 13 years went to him to complain about her pay and allowance.

The protestor further informed that the women will continue to agitate until the accused is awarded befitting punishment.

Meanwhile, since all proceedings of the court remained suspended, the accused who was supposed to make a physical appearance failed to turn up at the court, informed a source.
