The Dream And The Sun

By T. Priyokumar

Yesterday, there was a dream,
Which I found true.
I tried to chase it,
Here and there, and,
The dream like a butterfly it was,
That I tried to catch.

Here and there it flew,
But couldn’t catch it nowhere.
A butterfly of many colours a hue.
Here and there it flew,
But I couldn’t catch it as of yet.
Yesterday, there was a dream.

I woke early the next day,
And went down a straight path,
But the path led to nowhere.
Yes, the path led to nowhere.
And I longed for another dream,
Another dream like that of yesterday.

Today the sun rose,
Sure as everyday.
And its light was so mellow,
And a lark sang somewhere in my mind.
Yes, a lark sang somewhere in my mind.

Then the day grew,
And the heat a time few,
And my lark flew away,
Searching for a cooler glade.

Yesterday, I had a dream,
And, today, I long not for the sun,
But the starry night.
For which I wait.

And my lark will come back,
Surely, sometime in the night.
The larks,
The stars,
Together they will live,
Somewhere in my mind,
Sure as the day,
But true as the night.
