Civil bodies condemn alleged burning of women

IMPHAL, March 5: Several organizations of the state have condemned the burning of a 24 year old woman allegedly by her husband and mother in law. The said woman is presently undergoing treatment at the RIMS hospital, while the accused husband and her mother are in police custody.

The Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal in a press release while condemning the act has appealed to the competent authority to award befitting actions against all found guilty as per the law.

It has alleged that the Soshima Keishing was set on fire by her husband after pouring kerosene while her mother in law and sister in law were holding her hands.

According to the doctors, she suffered 40 percent of burn injuries, it said.

While appreciating the law enforcing agency of the state for the prompt arrest of the husband Chandal Kal who is main accused and the mother in law, the statement has further appealed to the concerned authorities to nab the  absconding .

It has further appealed to all concerned to condemn such acts.

Meanwhile, the Naga Women’s Union in a separate press statement has also condemned the act and demanded that justice be delivered to the Sashima and her young daughter at the earliest; that no bail be given to  Chandal Kal (husband) and that IOC employ Sashima in place of her husband, Chandal Kal.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Regional Indigenous Societies, FREINDS has also condemned the act in separate press releases.
