Death anniversary of Rozer Irom observed

IMPHAL, March 20: The second death anniversary of Rozer Irom who was allegedly shot dead by a former Minister’s son on March 20, 2011 was observed at Manipur Press Club today.

A two minute silence was observed for the peace of the departed soul.

Speaking on the solemn occasion, Phulindro Konsam convenor of Committee on Human Rights Manipur said, “Our right to life has been deprived in the state.

Following the imposition of various black laws, our fundamental rights are being suppressed.” 

Calling it unfortunate that the sons of high ranking persons are involved in murder and drug smuggling, he said that the unfortunate and heartbreaking incident of Rozer shows that might is power.

“The crimes done by elite groups and ruling class in the name of democracy should not be tolerated anymore by the people,” he added saying, “We have to keep on trying in legal prospects and from different angles to get our due justice. Otherwise the rate of crimes done by sons of high ranking people will increase.”

The occasion was presided over by Oinam Yaima, president of the All Manipur Student Guardian Organization and attended by Ramani Devi, general secretary Nupi Samaj and Th Ibopishak, State Chief Commissioner Manipur State Bharat Scouts and Guides as guests of honor.
