LAMKA, March 9: The introduction of  Global Positioning System (GPS) inputs to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) has taken its toll on the poor people of the district as several daily wage earners have been forced to spare their time in order to authenticate their job cards and wait for the elusive cameramen who will restore their cherish job card failing which, they will forfeit the 100 days of guaranteed job.

Beneficiaries have said the main problem lies with the delay in taking their photos but have expressed  their hope that the process will help in better implementation of the scheme.

They have also complained that the authorities concerned could do a better job by setting a date for a particular area for the photo process. According to the of beneficiaries the scheme, such an arrangement will not only make the process easier for the government authorities but will also help them who have to otherwise wait for days in order to get themselves photographed.

With a huge population of the area surviving without a proper and secure job and depending solely on such flagship programs of the government, any negligence on such schemes only creates problems.

Certain beneficiaries have also complained that even though the program has been introduced to simplify the lives of its beneficiaries, it has at times created more issues than benefits with the officials running the show to suit them.

Many in the suburb have also complained that the photo or GPS exercise had been abandoned halfway or discontinued in one locality without completion to start at another locality where the same process is continued all over again.

Citing that with the few cameraman in charge of a huge area like Lamka this is bound to happen, the beneficiaries have asked for more cameramen to be used for the process.
