Four killed in seperate road mishaps

IMPHAL, March 21: Two employees of the Manipur electronic development corporation ( MANITRON ) have died and one left seriously injured in a road mishap two kilometer away from  K Sinam village under Sapermeina police station along the National Highway number 37 on the Imphal Jiri road when the Bolero jeep vehicle bearing registration MNO4A- 3478 in which they were traveling fell into a deep gorge of over 100 ft deep  at around 6 pm when they were on their way back to the Imphal after attending a function held somewhere in Tamenglong district.

A team of Sapermeina police station rushed to the spot led by the officer in charge of the police station and rescued one person.

The persons who died in the road mishap area identified as Lukram Pritam (46)  son of Surendro of Sagolband Tera Lukram Leirak who is a technical assistant of MANITRON and Hoirongbam Gopendro (47), son of Pishak of Khongman Manjin zone 1 who is also a staff of MANITRON.  The injured person is identified as Khaidam Pumpum (23) and is said to be the driver of the ill fated Bolero. He has been rushed to the Shija hospital and research institute for further treatment.

Tamenglong MLA, Janghemlung Panmei who was returning from Tamenglong towards Inphal after inspecting the preparations of a function helped in picking up the dead from the gorge, informed a source.

Meanwhile, a 51year old man was killed in a road accident near the Checkon crossing under Porompat police station, Imphal East district today morning at around 9.30 am when a school van bearing registration number MN01K – 3946 hit the bicycle borne man. Angered locals  partly destroyed the van following the incident.

The dead person is identified as Sarangthem Gokulchandra (51) son of (L) Madhumangol of Wangkhei Thambalkhong  Lisham Leikai. The dead body of the deceased has been handed over to family members after a post mortem was conducted at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS). Meanwhile, Porompat police have taken up a case regarding the accident and the van has been seized.  

In yet another case, an electrician of a flour mill died while changing the electric line at the mill located at Chumbreithong under Heingang police station in Imphal east district at around 6.30 today morning. The dead body has been handed over to the JNIMS morgue Porompat for the post mortem.

The electrician has been identified as Gautum Sikhdar (27) son of Paresh Sikhdar of Siluguri (Assam ) at present staying in the flourmill. Heingang police have taken up a case regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, one Tata driver succumbed to his injury at hospital last mid night after a head on collision with another TATA truck near Motbung police out post yesterday at around 9.50 pm under Gamnom Sapermina police station in Senapati district.

The driver who succumbed to his injury is identified as Kh Bishorjit (28),  son of Kh Iboton of Awang Potsangbam Khullen.  He was driving a Tata truck bearing registration number MNA 3657 when the accident happened.

He was rush to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) hospital but succumbed to his injury last midnight.
