IMPHAL, March 9: The Great Senapati Run, Manipur 2013 on the theme “Run and Inspire” marathon race was held at Senapati District today. The marathon race was organized by Go-Go-Palz jointly with the Red Shield Division.
The marathon was divided into two categories: the 21 Km marathon, participated by those within the age group of 10 to 50 years was flagged off from Maram centre by Vineeta Sinha of the Army Wife Welfare Association (AWWA) and another from Karong of a run of 5 Kms was participated by those between the age of 50 to 80 years and flagged off by PK Jha, DC Senapati. The event was participated by approximately 2500 participants from all age group varying from 9 to 80 years. The marathon ended at Senapati Ground.
Rocky, President, Go-Go-Palz said the event was being organized for the second time and that it was done with the aim to bring together the public of Senapati District and Manipur and draw out a feeling of co-existence and communal harmony amongst the different tribal constituents of the district.
Speaking at the function L Dikho, MLA Mao Constituency said the marathon would ensure people to work together in bringing peace, harmony and development in the state.
The winners were awarded medals and cash prizes by Major General KK Sinha. In the general category, Pacha Chean, Puchong Chean and M Lathrong touched the first, second and third spot respectively for the men’s category and in the female category S Princila Devi, Wahida, MK Minarashi were adjudged first, second and third respectively.
PK Jha, DC Senapati urged the residents of Senapati district to come forward and create an example of harmony and peace for all others to emulate in Manipur.
