IMPHAL, March 18: A team of Imphal East police commandos arrested one PREPAK cadre on March 14 at about 5:30 pm from Kairang Chingya Leikai along with a demand letter of the organization signed by P Chinglen Meitei addressed to Ithem of Kairang Chingya Leikai, said a release of SP, Imphal East.
According to the release, the arrested person has been identified as Pukhrambam Amarjeet Singh (27) son of P Rajen Singh of Nambol Maibam Chingmang. One ID card of VDF issued by SP/BPR in his name was also recovered from his possession. On verification, he stated that he is an active member of PREPAK organization and he was involved in extortion of money from the general public, govt officials etc, the release said.
Further, on March 16 at about 12:45 pm, a team of CDO/Imphal East arrested one URF cadre identified as Heikrujam Joychandra Singh alias Joy (36) son of (L) H Gulamchal Singh of Lamlai Bazaar from Khurai Lamlong Bazaar in front of the Punshi Pharmacy, the release said.
One demand letter of URF and one mobile phone (Nokia-101) along with two SIM cards (Airtel & Vodafone) were recovered from his possession. On verification, he stated that he is an active member of URF organization and joined the organization in the month of January 2013 through one Naochi of Thoubal area, the release said.
Again, on the same day at about 12:50 pm, a team of CDO/Imphal East along with lady constables arrested two PREPAK women cadres identified as Mayanglambam Victoria Devi (39) wife of M Loken Singh of Top Khongnangkhong, Top Naoria and Aribam Rita Devi( 35) wife of (L) A Modhuchandra of Thangapat Mapak from Bamon Leikai Thangapat Mapal, it said.
On verification, Mayanglambam Victoria Devi stated that she joined PREPAK organization in the month of January 2013 through one Aribam Rita Devi of Bamon Leikai and they were involved in extortion of money from the general public, government officials, businessmen etc and transportation and of arms and ammunition from one place to another, it added.
Meanwhile, in a separate release of SP, Imphal West said that Imphal West police commandos arrested one active member of KYKL from Mana Ongkhol Mamang Leikai on March 17 at about 12:20 am.
The arrested person has been identified as Koijam Nimai alias Angom Meitei (51) son of (L) K Mangi Meitei of Mana Ingkhol Mamang Leikai.
On spot verification, he disclosed that he was working under one Tompok of KYKL since two years back and mobilizing the local volunteers to conduct anti national debates, seminars on the topic given by Tompok of KYKL under funding from KYKL, the release said. Further, he disclosed that he extorted money from the Pradhans and Members of Lamsang area under the instruction of Tompok for party funds. One mobile handset was seized from his possession, the release added.
