Imphal int`l short film fest begins

IMPHAL, March 23: Legend Studio Manipur supported by Film Forum Manipur and Action for Social Advancement (ASA), Manipur organized the 2nd Imphal International Short Film Festival 2013 with the motto “Bigger picture in shorts” at the College of Agriculture (CAU), Iroisemba today.

Speaking as chief guest at the occasion, KR Chethallur, president Insight the Creative Group, Palakkad Keralam said short film is a medium of self expression.

“A poet expresses himself with words, a painter with canvas, likewise we filmmaker use camera to express ourselves and communicate to the media. The aim of the short films is not for exhibition but for amateur film making,” he said.

Film is a technical art, we can’t approach it with bare head, and we have to have the knowledge. Nowadays there is much prosperity of short films.

We are looking at cinema as the most serious art. Everybody must try to make film, it doesn’t matter which camera one use but shoot it seriously, he added.

The occasion was presided over by Naorem Iboton Singh, Dean CAU; and attended by Junichi Kajioka, a London based Japanese Actor as Guest of honour.

The festival will be organized till March 28, 2013 and will screen short films including silent films and films of Korea,  Spain, Bangladesh, Japan, Argentina, Iran, Russia, Georgia, Marathi, USA, UK, UAE, Australia and Philippines and in languages like Urdu, Kannada, Meeteilon, Bengali, Tamil, English, Malayalam,

During the occasion Naorem Iboton Singh said that films are very good medium to gain knowledge as well as entertainment. It is required for the reformation of society and is important for people.

“This festival will have a good role for those involved in film making in this area. Here we have very less film makers so we should learn and promote our films,” he added.

“In my opinion filmmakers have special brain. We have so many talented people here and so we have to hunt our talents.

This festival will give a very good message and idea to the youths and change the mind of the young generation”, he said.

Altogether 78 short films like The Hell (Korean), Kanaveegal (Tamil), Illusions (Tamil), Mazhayoooppam Mayunnathu (Malayalam), She (Spanish), Corner (English), Pizzasin (Bangladeshi), The Future (Australian), Bhuto (Bengali) and Laibak (Meiteilon) will be screened at the festival.

Other short films like Mr Bear (USA), The Truth Behind (Silent Film), Love at First Sight (UK), Luminaris (Argentine), Once Upon a Sultan (Urdu), Rangi (Kannada), The Eyes of Miracle (Iran), 1973 (Russia), April Chill (Georgian) and Missed Samonte (Filipino)  are  also being showcased.
