KANGPOKPI, March 8: The Kangpokpi Town Committees, SAHILCA and other social organizations of Kangpokpi after a meeting on February 22, 2013 initiated the process of changing the present name of Kangpokpi to Kanggui.
Paolal Haokip, vice president SAHILCA represented SAHILCA in the joint meeting while Seikhosat Kipgen, Executive Member (Town), Autonomous District Council Sadar Hills also attended the said meeting.
While speaking to a media person in the office chamber of KTC chairman, Chonkam Kipgen, chairman Kangpokpi Town Committee today said that according to the resolution No 3 of the joint meeting ,business establishments, educational institutions, buses, auto assn. and all govt. departments have been notified to change `Kangpokpi` into its original name `KANGGUI` within February.
He further said that, as per the notification, some have already changed Kangpokpi into Kanggui. Business establishment like saloons, variety store, pharmacy, pan dukan, etc. have written Kanggui in place of Kangpokpi in their respective signboards.
Buses are marked Kanggui to Imphal and autos in Kangpokpi have Kanggui in their front windshields.
KTC chairman also said that the Addl Deputy Commissioner, Kangpokpi has assured to lend any possible help from his side to fulfill the needs of the general public.
