Manipur,IMPHAL, March 1: The All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) has in a statement expressed its gratitude to all individuals and firms who had extended help to organize a tour to the Andaman and Nicobar islands to initiate processes for a memorial in honour of Maharaj Kullachandra who was exiled at Mt. Harriet in 1891. The statement from A. The statement said that the Andaman and Nicobar media tour would not have been possible without their support. It also expressed its heartfelt thanks to L. Brojendro Singh, Scientist at the Port Blair Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI) and the Protocol Officer of the UNion Territory. Validating that the trip has instilled hope regarding the memorial for Maharaja Kulachandra at Mt Harriet, the statement said that it would need the state government to initiate official communication since the area is a reserved forest area. It further stated that this had been intimated to the state Chief Minister following an earlier AMWJU tour to the islands in 2003. A detailed report of the tour would be submitted to the state government, it said and added that in case the Government fails to take up any stand regarding the memorial, AMWJU would try to ensure the same on its own steam.
