Manipur,IMPHAL, March 11:Irom Chanu Sharmila will be released from Judicial custody tomorrow even as three human right activists has arrived at Imphal from outside the State to show solidarity to her protest. The three are set to undertake a fast at Sharmila Kanba Lup Sanglen located at Ayangpalli road tomorrow.
Irom Sharmila who has been fasting for removal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 since November 2000 has been remanded to judicial custody at JNIMS hospital due to her health condition and forced feeding. The FIR registered against Sharmila at the latest is number 95(3) 2012 under section 309 of the Indian Penal Code, which stipulates that she will be imprisoned for a tenure of one year. Since the FIR was registered on March 12, 2012, she is scheduled to be released from judicial custody tomorrow.
It may be mentioned that many organizations have organized the International Women’s Day and some have spearheaded the campaign by focusing on Sharmila’s protest since March 8. The ‘Save Sharmila Campaign’ organized by supporters has been conducting different protests and gaining solidarity from various quarters. In the regard, Faisal Khan, the convener of the National Alliance for Peoples Movement (NAPM), New Delhi with two other human right activists have resolved to show solidarity to Sharmila’s struggle. The trio arrived at Imphal airport today and were received by members of the Just Peace Foundation today afternoon. The three are presently being lodged at Kongpal Kongkham Leikai club. They will be fasting for a day at Sharmila Kanba Lup shanglen tomorrow. The activist will later meet members of different civil organizations and scribes of the state.
It may be mentioned that Sharmila post her release from judicial custody will also be at the same place (sanglen) to continue her fast.She was last produced before the Patiala Court on March 4th for the FIR registered against her in 2006 ,October for demonstrating AFSPA repeal at Jantar Mantar.
