PIB affirms Leirenjao`s PLA antecedents

IMPHAL, March 26: A press statement of the PIB has said that S/s sergeant major Ningthoujam Leirenjao Singh alias Thouba son of (L) N Ahongjao Singh of Singda Kadangban Part I was apprehended by troops of Red Shield Division on the intervening night of March 23 – 24.

It said that the individual has revealed important information on armed activities in the area of Imphal West and also led to the recovery of a 7.65 mm Pistol and a Pt 22 Pistol alongwith 40 rounds of AK ammunition. The individual as per his statement was recruited by PLA in 1996 and has been actively managing movement and harbouring of PLA cadres in the areas of Phayeng and Singda, it said.

The allegation by Ningthoujam (o) Mani, the wife of the PLA cadre s/s Sergeant Major Ningthoujam Leirenjao Singh that she was hit by the butt of a weapon is concocted and malafide in intent as no such incident took place during arrest of her husband, it claimed.
