Police nab commando for smuggling SP tablets

IMPHAL, March 12: Even as various civil organizations are protesting the smuggling of drugs into the State and pressurizing the concerned authorities to book the culprits, a commando personnel has been arrested for smuggling SP tablets today.

At least 3 lacs worth of the banned tablet numbering 12,034 was seized from an Imphal West commando personnel. The arrested individual is identified as one  Md Nazimuddin,29,s/o Md Leihimuddin of Yairipok Heitroipokpi, havildar number 062007552 of  6th MR and presently attached to Imphal West CDO.

The arrest was made at around 12.30 pm near the Hatta oil pump M/s Tuks and Bons today. The tablets were seized from a truck (MNO4-A/7731) carrying grocery items and driven by Md Hasim, 45, s/o late Yasin of Yairipok Tulihal Toupokpi. The truck halted at the oil pump and downloaded the SP tablets in 5 polythene packets, OC of narcotic cell ,Imphal west, Geetchandra was informed about the consignment. After the driver was caught, he confessed that the tablets belonged to one Nazimmudin. Then ,the Narcotic sleuths made the call through the driver. Later, the individual came in a Maruti 800, red in color ( MNO4 –A/ 2185). When the transfer was carried out , he was formally arrested at the spot. The capsules were purchased at around 50, 000 Rs which is worth around 2 lacs at Imphal.

The commando personnel confessed on conducting such transaction twice earlier. He was caught on the third time. The Narcotic Cell has taken up a case in the regard.
