IMPHAL, March 2: Several Meira Paibi organizations and local youth clubs of the state organized a torch “Meira” rally at Hiyangthang against the recent drug trafficking cases being unearthed in the state.
The organizations who took part in the rally today included Hiyanthang Meira Paibi Apunba Lup; Kamakhya Social Youth Club; SWC, Hiyanthang Mayi Leikai; HKC, Hiyanthang Kabui Khul; MPC, Hiyangthang Maning Leikai; HEYDA, Hiyangthang Makha Leikai; Hiyanthang Kabui Women Society; Phuramakhong Apunba Meira Paibi Lup and Tarahei A Meira Paibi Apunba Lup.
The rally was taken out from Hiyangthang Keithel and after reaching Langthabal Phura Makhong, turned back to the keithel.
Speaking to media persons, one of the protestors said the rally was conducted against the recent cases of drug trafficking. She said, “the time has come for the people to stand united against drug trafficking to safeguard the future of the state.”
She continued that since the traffickers have brought in the drugs into the state and made it available, the youth who have swayed by it have become addicts which not only harm their bodies but impacts upon the larger society.
