IMPHAL, April 19: The All Manipur United Club Organization (AMUCO) has appealed to all business establishment, keithels and cinema halls to shut down as a mark a respect, solidarity and support to the bandh call by the JAC and All Manipur Road Transport Motor Worker`s Union against the killing of Babu. Briefing the media at a press conference held at its office at Kwakeithel, K T Rehman President of AMUCO said that the organization strongly condemn the killing of Babu by suspected armed cadres and said the incident of harassment of drivers on the highways is not happening for the first time. Laying the blame on the state government for its failure in taking up appropriate security measures on the state highways, he further pointed out that the killing of state government employees posted at hills districts is due to the state government`s failure to arrest those involve and giving befitting punishment in the cases.
Appealing for support and solidarity to the bandh being called by the JAC in the matter, Rehman also appealed to all state government employees to wear the black when they go to their respective office as a mark of respect and to show support to the drivers.
He further appealed to all the civil society organizations of the state from both the hills and valley to work together to find out which group is involved in the killing of the driver to give befitting punishment to the person(s) involved in the crime. Rehman also added that the State Home Department needs to be pressured to take appropriate security measures in both the state highways by establishing various police stations along the road with proper facilities and manpower to carry out routine patrolling along the national highways for the safety of drivers and passengers along the Highways.
He further appealed to the state government to announce reward for any person who can provide any information regarding the killing of Babu which might help the state police to find out those involved in the crime.
