Ceasefire with Khaplang group to be extended

DIMAPUR (NNN), April 24: The ceasefire between the Government of India and the NSCN-K group headed by S.S Khaplang will be extended for one more year after the current term ends in the next few days time on April 28.

Sources said leaders of the NSCN-K and New Delhi had agreed for the extension of the ceasefire after the April 28 expiry in the national capital on April 22. However, it is not clear whether the two sides has signed the agreement for the same.

According to Intelligence sources, leaders of the NSCN-K had camped in New Delhi recently and had agreed for the one more year extension term of ceasefire on Monday where Sambhu Singh who is the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in-charge of North East region had led the Government of India side.In the year 2001, the NSCN-K had signed the ceasefire agreement for the first time with the Government of India. However, no political dialogues have begun till date between the two parties.  The ceasefire term between the Khole-Kitovi group of the NSCN too will expire on April 28. However, it is not certain as yet whether the parties had signed for the extension of the ceasefire. Like the NSCN-K, the Khole-Kitovi group also has not started any political dialogue till date.
