LAMKA, April 8: A major fire broke out around 11.00 pm late last night at the Happy Heart School situated at Bethel Veng, Khomoi in the outskirt of Lamka town. The school which has a student strength of 1300 had 104 borders who were present in the school when the fire broke out. The fire is said to have originated from the kitchen which at the time of the incident was not occupied as all the workers had left for the night . The school officials said that they doused the fire with water and were clueless as to what would have caused the fire last night. Three rooms were completely gutted which include the kitchen and two store rooms. The damaged property and goods include the said building and kitchen items like vegetables and other cooking material,water container, building material and racks which are estimated to be worth around Rs. 5.03 lakhs. The fire was subsequently put under control by the fire brigade of Churachandpur after one and a half hour battle. Fortunately, there was no human casualty in the fire mishap.
The official of the fire department told this IFP correspondent that with the advent of dry season, as many as 11 incidents of fire outbreaks. Last year, the CCPur. fire department had registered 20 cases of fire in the district. The cost of the damage of this year`s fire incidents is estimated to be more then 14 lakhs as recorded so far.
