IMPHAL, April 15: Personnel of 39 Assam Riffles came under an IED bomb attack at Theigottheng village near Hithangkhunao under Singhat assembly constituency yesterday morning, according to sources.
No report of causality was reported on the side of Assam Rifle personnel.
Later, Assam Rifle personnel conducted search operations in the nearby areas.
Meanwhile, the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) has in a press statement signed by its publicity department chief Bangkim said that the bomb attack was carried out by a `Fighting Force` of the 252 mobile battalion of PLA carried out the attack and claimed that there were some casualties on the side of the security forces.
The statement also claimed responsibility for an attack on the 116 Battalion, BSF (D-Coy) camp at Wangjing Tekcham Leikai on April 13 at around 8:30 pm and the other at Lilong Heinou Makhong attacking a team of 40 Assam Rifles on foot patrol on April 14 at around 7:20 am.
The PLA in its statement also expressed regret that a child was injured in the blast at Lilong while saying that they always try to avoid civilian casualties.
Meanwhile, another IED blast occurred yesterday around 7 am on the roadside along the National Highway number 2 at Lilong Heikru Makhong under Lilong police station in Thoubal district.
One minor identified as Md Nasurruddin, 8, son of Kayamuddin of Lilong Haoreibi was injured in the blast.
Subsequently, a team of Lilong police and 40 Assam Riffles personnel posted at Lilong searched the area and found another IED and informed the state bomb squad.
Later, a state bomb expert team arrived and safely detonated the IED bomb.
