IMPHAL, April 12: The 26th Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) convocation day was observed today at Asha Jina Complex today.

Speaking as chief guest at the function Moirangthem Oken, Education and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Minister said an effort to build a separate regional institute of IGNOU will be made this year.

IGNOU`s aim is to emphasise not only in education but also to build up leadership quality. However, the students passed out from IGNOU have been looked down in the state. This should not be done because IGNOU has been set up to admit those students who want to study but could not do so due to some unavoidable circumstances, he said.

IGNOU convocations are being held nationwide today.

During the function, a member of IGNOU said out of 299 students studying under IGNOU, only 86 students passed out of  the different courses.

The Chief Guest distributed certificates to the passed out students.
