HOJAI, April 23: As in other parts of Manipur, the 122nd Khongjom Laan Day was held under the aegis of Khongjom Laan Celebration Committee at Hojai under Nagaon District of Assam.
The function was attended by Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar as the chief guest, N Bidya, president of Khongjom Day Celebration Committee as the president, Dr. Maisnam Shanou, retd CMO Hojai as the special guest, Usham Kunjabihari, president of Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Hojai, Y Nabachandra, President of United Committee Manipur (UCM) and Y Dhiren, secretary Organisation of UCM as guests of honour.
The people present there led by Dr. Kh Ratankumar paid floral tributes to the statue of Paona Brajabasi near Gita Mandir of Hojai. A public meeting was held at the auditorium at the Manipur Sahitya Parishad Bhavan as the main part of the observation.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Dr Kh Ratankumar said that it is very important to strengthen the position of Manipuris sparsely settling outside Manipur while noting that we would be able to unite by researching into our history and having an insight into it.
He continued that Khongjom Day was observed as it was taken seriously and such observation gave an opportunity to us to build up a uniting relationship among ourselves while reasoning how we will be able to unite if we do not know our origin.
He went on to say that he would persuade the Chief Minister to build a Manipur State Guest House as Hojai is a place where people coming from Manipur can halt for a while and appealed to the public of the area to provide a location for this.
He noted that there is a necessity to finish the construction of Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Hojai Bhawan while asserting that he would call on the Chief Minister to take up all possible actions by submitting the memorandum which the Parishad had entrusted to him.
Speaking at the observation, UCM President Yumnam Nabachandra said that the world has extremely advanced today following the ultimate advancement of globalization and information technology while noting that we need to think and study in what condition our standard of living is, as compared to the utmost advancement.
