IMPHAL, April 10: Calling an end to violence against women, the Naga Women’s Union has said in a press release that the the increasing trend of violence against women and children in the state is threatening the society today. The purpose of life and respecting the dignity of life has lost its ground, it said.
It has further strongly condemned the gruesome acts of violence against women -the incident of abduction and the cold blooded murder of N. Satyabhama on April 3 by the accused gang and the rape and attempted murder of a housewife in Ukhrul on April 4; another murder of a young woman recovered on March 28, 2013 by the police with a bullet wound and signs of strangulation on the neck partially buried at a spot adjacent to the interstate bus terminus near Purana bazaar, Dimapur and the molestation of a young girl at Dimapur Railway Station by a 26 year old.
NWU extends its solidarity to all the victims and families of these heinous crimes and demands to take stringent action against the accused according to the law of the land and compensate the victims, it said.
NWU has also appealed to the authorities concerned to submit the required charge sheets against the murderers of N Satyabhama for further process as soon as possible.
