IMPHAL, April 9: The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has celebrated its 43rd foundation day at the Annexe Hall of Congress Bhawan here today, organized by NSUI-Manipur and attended by Ministers, MLAs, office bearers of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, members of NSUI-Manipur and Congress workers.

The occasion was graced by Gaikhangam, President of MPCC and Deputy Chief Minister and AK Mirabai Devi, Vice President MPCC (i/c Frontal Organization) and Minister Social Welfare/Co-operation as Chief guest and President respectively.

Speaking on the occasion Gaikhangam said it takes time, knowledge, experience and practice to bring about good politics. “However, it is not good if the student community completely immerses in politics and leave other important directions in their life,” he said while inviting students to join the NSUI, “not to immerse completely in politics but to make become better students”.

He continued that students have to do their duties sincerely and maintain discipline to be successful in life. One who cannot be a good student cannot become a good teacher or leader and can instead cause the society to collapse and social unrest when such people become leaders.

NSUI is formed with the belief to bring up youths for a healthy society and the Congress is working towards bringing about healthy, positive and successful citizens, and to lead the youths in a better direction and encourage them, Gaikhangam added.

During the occasion, AK Mirabai Devi said that NSUI was established by Indira Gandhi. “The students should not forget the role of Congress in attaining freedom of the nation, and the dream of Rajiv Gandhi for a modern India and try to fulfill it. They should also stay away from intoxicants and play a role in correcting wrong doings and preventing crimes,” she said. In order to reconstruct the moral character which is on the verge of extinction the students need to follow the vision of Indira Gandhi and maintain our tradition and discipline, she continued.
