IMPHAL, April 7: In regard to the controversial disbanding of the Special Intelligence Unit on January 15 after seizure of a huge quantity of pseudo-ephedrine tablets, the crux of the matter and the dealings of the police have been quizzed by an RTI activist regarding various seizures made by different police teams and the SIU.
An application under section 8 of the RTI was requested from the Joint Secretary (Home) yesterday. The questions include how many personnel were utilized in the SIU and to make available copies of the FIR cases registered by the SIU since its inception. It also sought to produce copies in regard to establishing the unit and further for its abolishment.
It mentions that SIU had seized contraband drugs worth one crore forty lakhs from an Air Deccan flight on 11/1/2013. It asked whether the information was taken down in writing and the same was informed to the immediate Superior officer besides inquiring on When, where and who had sealed the said seized drugs and where it is being kept till date.
It also mentioned of what returns the Home Department of the State had tendered to inspector K Ranjit and the SIU team for their outstanding achievements. The appellate further questioned the involvement of one person named ‘Henery’in some cases and what has been the follow up so far.
The antecedents of the seizures of drugs from Mantripukhri, from a VDF personnel, by Thoubal police from Pallel area, from the six persons which included colonel Ajay Chodhary , seizure from MLA TN Haokip’s son, etc. was put up through the RTI. It was asked whether the drugs are still in custody, whether they have been sent to the Forensic lab and tested, the analysis report and who had sealed the drugs.
The RTI is applied by L Mema from Kangabam Leikai and is presently working as Secretary of Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup.
