Search operation intensified ahead of Presidential visit

IMPHAL, April 13: Continuing with the security measures being carried out in the state capital ahead of the Presidential visit on April 15, state police personnel and commandos of Imphal East and West conducted cordon and search operations in the two districts today.

A large number of police personnel and commandos of Imphal East district under the supervision of W Rajen Additional Superintendent of Police (operations) Imphal East and led by Achouba Meetei, Officer in charge of Imphal East Commando (CDO) conducted a cordon and search operation at Lamlong Bazaar, Khurai  Lai Puthiba and picked up 11 individuals from the area including a woman without proper identification proof and handed them over to their concerned police stations for further verification.

The operations went on from 4:30 am to 7 am.

Later, all those picked up were released after proper police verification.

In the evening, the same team of Imphal East police personnel and commando conducted a random cordon and search operation at different locations of Imphal East from 4 pm today.

The operations were conducted at Andro Parking, Hapta Minuthong, and Sangakpham bazaar  where people were called out from their respective homes and verification done by the police personnel.

However, no one was picked up by the police team during the search operation.

Speaking to the media, W Rajen said  that the search operations will continue in crowded places, rented out areas of the district in light of the forthcoming Presidential visit to the state capital.

Meanwhile, Imphal West police and district commandos also conducted cordon and search operation in different places of the district under the supervision of S Ibomcha, Deputy Superintendent of police (operation) commando Imphal west from early morning at Kwakeithel Takhellambam leikai, Konjeng Hajari Leikai and Khwairakpam Leikai.

Altogether, 11 individuals failed to produced proper identification proofs were picked up by the police team and handed over to their respective police stations for verification.

Speaking to the media, S. Ibomcha DY SP CDO Imphal West said the cordon and search operations have been going on since April 11 and will be continued further.
