IMPHAL, April 9: Child Rights and You (CRY Project) and Manipur Mahila Kalyan Samiti (MMKS) organized a one day women convention on the protection of child rights with the theme “Redefining women’s roles for protection of child rights” at the Children Home of MMKS at Dewlahland today.
Speaking at the occasion Dr Ch Jamini Devi, Retd Chairperson of the Manipur State Women Commission said it is required to redefine the role of women in bringing up a child. “Children are the future generation and we have to understand a child. Right to love and security is very important for a child,” she said.
Saying that a child is not born being delinquent but the parents make him that way and personality difference is created when a child is treated differently from other children, she said that if we cannot develop the mind of a child, external laws and acts would not apply to him.
During the occasion S Sharaju, President MMKS appreciated the role of meira paibi, women vendors and every woman for their respective roles. Saying that the role of parents in bringing up their child is very large, she said that they should look after the health, psychology and potential of the child, and follow the tenets of child rights to make him a better person.
During the technical session K Pradipkumar, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) State Representative/Child Welfare Committee Imphal East, Manipur; and M Sobita Devi, Secretary of Women Action for Development (WAD) spoke on the topic “Magnitude of crimes against women and children: Gaps and challenges” and “Gender empowerment and advocating women organizations for protection of child rights” respectively as resource persons at the occasion.
