IMPHAL, April 18: Militant outfit Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) while distancing itself from the incident of the killing of a trucker transporting cement and rice from Jiribam into the state capital along the New Cachar road yesterday has condemned the act and said that it is not related to the incident in any manner.

Informing this to IFP, information and publicity secretary of the proscribed outfit, A Danguni said the perpetrators have deliberately instigated the inhuman and cruel act to create communal tension between the Meiteis and the Zelianrong communities.

He said that it is learnt on interrogating a person fleeing from the scene of the incident at Noney that the armed men came in a Maruti van from the Imphal side.

It is also learnt that they were six/seven  in number and seemed to have carried out the activities in connection with extortion along the highway, he said.

What is the use of killing a driver serving the public, injuring the handyman and setting the vehicles on fire?, he questioned.

He further demanded that the culprits should clarify on the matter at the earliest.

He also said that such incidents should not be repeated in the operational area of Zeliangrong United Front in the future.
