IMPHAL, May 16: Ethno-Heritage Council (HERICOUN) observed its 11th foundation day today by organizing the 4th Khangminnasi Eramdam quiz at Hotel Imphal at Kabo Leikai here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Akoijam Janaki Leima, President of Momnu Eerikkhombi Lup (MEEKHOL) said the lack of respect and giving up of one`s honour and tradition are contributing factors for various crimes happening in the state.
Delivering the presidential address at the occasion, Mutum Churamani Meetei, President HERICOUN said the bond between the indigenous people of the hill and valley is becoming stronger though problems creep in when the number of people wanting to drive a wedge between the two increase. Now is the time to think on how to progress and get on par with other states, he added.
He continued that it is necessary that the central government funds are properly utilized to solve the issue of development. T
The government should adopt a policy to bring quality education, and eradicate drug trafficking in the interest of future Manipur, he said.
An award called ‘Tomthin Khudol’ which is given every year by HERICOUN to a outstanding personality selected from various fields, was handed over to Nameirakpam Ibeni Devi of Kwakeithel for her works in the field of Khongjom Parva today for the current year.
Prizes were distributed to winners for district level and final episode of Khangminnasi Eramdam Quiz Competition 2013 today.
Sarangthem Manaobi, IPS (MA LLB, MJS (Rsd), LLM), Member International Bar Association, London and International Human Rights Committee, London; and H Ibotombi Khuman, Advisor International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) also spoke on the occasion.
