Joint Committee on ILP announces more agitations

IMPHAL, May 10:  The state will soon be witnessing another bout of agitations on the Inner Line Permit demand issue as the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System formed by several civil society organizations has join hands with the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System of Students, formed today jointly by several student unions of the state threatening agitations from June 1 in case the Ministry of Home Affairs fail to instruct the state government for the implementation of the ILP in the state.

Speaking to media persons at the Ethno Heritage Council office today, spokesperson Sapamcha Jadumani said the bodies have set a May 31 deadline for the government to extend the ILP in Manipur regarding which an ultimatum has been dispatched to the Union Home Minister today.

He said in case of failure on the part of the centre to meet the set deadline than, the bodies will block the entry of any non-Manipuri into the state from June 1.

He elaborated that the blockade against the outsiders will continue till June 5.

He continued that the agitation will continue by disallowing all non-locals from entering localities for their business or any other purposes from June 6-10, if the government fails to  implement the ILP in the state.

The spokesperson who is the convenor of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System in Manipur said that the bodies along with the people of the state will continue to launch several other forms of agitation unless the demands for the extension of the Inner Line permit into the state is approved.

He said, the demand of the bodies should not be mistaken as demands for eviction of the non-locals from the state.
