KANGPOKPI, May 24: An active member of the Kuki National Front a Suspension of Operation signatory under the UPF was shot dead late last night around 10:30pm near the Sapormeina Forest Beat under Gamnom Sapormeina Police Station.
The killing of the KNF camp CO brought Sapormeina and its adjoining areas to a stand still affecting passenger transport services, business establishments and even educational institutions today.
The police identified the slain cadre as Seipao Kipgen (38), alias HS Shanty son of (L) Seikhai Kipgen.
The dead body of Seipao bore three bullet holes on his chest, elbow and under arm.
According to a reliable source, Seipao was watching a play of cards outside a workshop near Sapormeina Forest Beat when he was shot at close range by unknown miscreants.
The source further added that Seipao died on the spot immediately when he was shot.
One person who was also watching the game ran away after the fatal gunshot and the unknown miscreants shot him at his back as well.
The police have identified the injured as Ashok from Sapormeina, who runs a small business shop at Sapormeina Bazar.
The Sapormeina police recovered the dead body of the camp CO of KNF the same night and later sent it for post mortem at Imphal the next morning.
The police are still trying to nab the culprit till the filling of this report.
Meanwhile, in connection with the gruesome killing of the KNF camp CO, all business establishments along the National Highway from Motbung to Kangpokpi have been closed.
Passenger vehicle movement have also been affected and all educational institutions have also been shutdown at Kangpokpi, Sapormeina, Keithelmanbi and Motbung area in connection with the brutal killing of the KNF camp CO.
