IMPHAL, May 27: The state government is in the process of constructing a huge complex meant only for the rehabilitation of militants who have discarded their arms and re-entered the mainstream, said state Dy Chief Minister while speaking to media persons after a function observing the 49th death anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
He said the complex will provide all possible facilities to make the former gun wielding-militants “self-content”.
The Dy Chief Minister who also holds the Home portfolio said the government is yet to pick out the site for the complex, however, he added that the state government will tie up with the central Home Ministry to speed up the construction of the complex.
The complex will be constructed at a site measuring 100 to 200 acres, he said before adding that the funds will be sanctioned by the Centre.
He said even if the centre fails to sanction funds for the construction of the complex, there is likelihood that the state government will sanction the funds for which the centre would re-imburse the amount later.
He further urged the public to mentally and physically support the cadres of the armed outfits who have decided to join the mainstream again.
The Dy CM further appealed to all other groups to return to the mainstream and create a peaceful society.
Meanwhile, coming to the recent upsurge in the seizure of contraband drugs in the state, Gaikhangam said the police need to be ever vigilant and active in carrying out their duties.
He then went on to add that the state government is also in the process to strengthen the decision of the state cabinet to forfeit the properties of anyone proved to be involved in drug trafficking in the state and put it in force.
