IMPHAL, May 18: The Ukhrul District SSA Primary Teachers’ Association has set a deadline to the state government to release the salary of primary teachers of the district working under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) by May 25, 2013.

Informing this in a press conference held at Berean Lodge, Dewlahland here today, Ngalengpam Shimray, Convenor of the Association said if no positive actions are taken up by the government then it would be compelled to launch democratic form of agitations.

Lower primary teachers submitted their joining report on September 25, 2012 and upper primary teachers on November 10, 2012. Despite all the teachers performing their duties diligently and properly till today, their salaries have not been paid yet, he lamented.

However, except the Ukhrul district, salary for two months for other districts have been released in March this year. It is causing us shock, surprise and disheartening, he added and asked the reason for not paying the salary.

He continued that the teachers faced many inconveniences, problems and hardships as the salaries have not been paid for their eight months duty. Also there is no ZEO since March 2013 in the district and this might be one of the reasons for not paying salaries timely.

Therefore, to ease all hardships and problems the government should send a highly competent, eligible, efficient and able ZEO in the district. M Okendro, Minister Education should personally intervene regarding the matter and the three locals MLAs to pay attention on the same, Shimray appealed.

He then said, the Minister Education has been heard of speaking in various occasions assuring to bring total change in education sector. The Association observes the occurrence of changes and appreciates him for it. So, the vacant post of ZEO of Ukhrul should be filled sooner.
