IMPHAL, May 31: The life span of a smoker is shortened by 17 years for males and 14 years in case of females. This was stated by Dr Ksh Manglem Singh while observing the World No Tobacco Day at the Kshetri Sanglen, Thoubal today.
L Tilotama, Vice Chairperson, NYKS, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt of India and T Ranjit Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Thoubal were the chief guest and president respectively.
The day was jointly organized by NYK, NSS Waikhom Mani Girl’s College, Lion’s Club and District Health Society, Thoubal.
The Zonal Director, NYKS Imphal J Ruivah, Chief Medical Officer, Thoubal Dr Kh Radheshyam Singh and Lionness Dr Ch Renubala Devi were invited as special guests.
Dr Ksh Manglem Singh, (retd) CMO and Dr L Gojendro Singh, District Family Welfare Officer, Thoubal were the Resource Persons of the day.
Ill effects of consuming tobacco were clearly pointed out by the resource persons with the help of PowerPoint presentations during the function.
A public rally was also taken out from CMO Office Thoubal to Kshetri Shanglen Thoubal participated by students, youth leaders and NGO activists.
A “No tobacco” pledge was been taken by the chief guest during the program.
