IMPHAL, June 30: The JAC against the Kidnapping & Rapping of Arishma, Yairipok has issued a press release appealing to all students’ unions, club, civil society organisation and Meira Paibi lups to join hands in the attempt to root out such heinous crimes of rape and kidnapping of women.
Recalling the incident, the JAC is again narrating that the victim girl was kidnapped by Md Taj Khan, son of Jaherruding of Yairipok Singa from the campus of the Yairipok Universal College on June 19, 2013 at 1:00 pm when she was inside the same college for her admission to B Sc 1st year. While kidnapping the girl, the kidnapper Md Taj Khan was allegedly using chemical power to make her asleep for awhile and allegedly rape her then dropped her in her home in the midnight at 12:00, it said.
It is further said that The JAC has been peacefully urging since then upto June 28 to Yairipok police, Thoubal SP, Home Minister and also Chief Minister to arrest the culprit so as to be brought the matter in the light of law court and adding that Chief Minister has taken statement of the victim assuring that the culprit will be arrested in 48 hours in the presence of MLA Th Shyamkumar. The JAC further questioned to the concerned SP for keeping the public in the dark and also the local MLA who is also a Parliamentary Secretary K Meghachandra Singh for distance himself from this particular issue of rape case.
In such a backdrop, the JAC has resolved to call a 24 hours general strike from the midnight of June 1. Although, essential services such as electricity, water supply, press media, medicals, religious activities etc will be exempted from the ambit of the general strike, it said.
