IMPHAL, June 16: Office bearers of the Manipur Students’ Federation (MSF) arrested by Imphal West District Police for locking up the office of the Health Services Directorate were released this evening.

The office bearers had locked up the office as part of the student body’s intense agitation against the decision of the state government to call off the MBBS/BDS entrance test, 2013 just a few days ahead of the June 9 scheduled test.

According to information received by IFP, Imphal police station registered Non-FIR case No. 38/IPS against the student volunteers.

Sources said, the student volunteers have been charged under section 101/161 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPc) in a non-FIR case. However, the MSF volunteers including the president were released today at 5:30pm after being produced before Executive Magistrate of Imphal West.

The student volunteers are Longjam Umakanta, president; Boinao, VP; S Develin, assistant finance secretary and K Romio, executive member.

On the other hand, office bearers of the student body held a press meet at an area of Imphal West today at around 1 pm regarding the agitation being taken by MSF on the issue of the Medical Entrance Test.

Speaking at the press meet, RN Koireng, general secretary of MSF said that MSF strongly lamented the decision of the government to scrap the Entrance Test Examination for this year though it is held every year and even after all preparations had been in place for the conduct of the test this year.

He continued that the agitation being mounted by the body is to fight for the right of students but the government has tried to mislead the people by putting the democratic agitation in the negative light, he added.

He further demanded the concern authorities to withdraw the notification issued by S Mema Devi, Additional Director of Directorate of Health Services on June 15 saying that counseling for students selected for MBBS/BDS based on the result of NEET, 2013 will be conducted.
