IMPHAL, June 24 (NNN): The All Tribal Students Union, Manipur (ATSUM) president Muan Tombing and its general secretary Vareiyo Shatsang has said they will oppose the proposed election of “the so-called Interim Body of ATSUM” to be held on June 25.
“This so called Interim Body of ATSUM in connivance with some dirty politicians are all out to destroy the tribal unity by conducting the poll. ATSUM will never allow this to happen,” said Muan Tombing and Vareiyo Shatsang.
They then said the Churachandpur District Students Union (CDSU), Naga Students Union Chandel (NSUC), Zeliangrong Students Union, Manipur and Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) will not participate in the said “so called Interim Body ATSUM poll”.
Meanwhile, NSUC, CDSU, ZSUM, TKS, Zomi Students Federation (ZFS) and Thadou Students Association-General Headquarters (TSA-GHQ) have said they are not going to be parties to the “so called Interim Body ATSUM” poll to be held on June 25. These six students` bodies warned that if any untoward incident arises out of the “Interim Body ATSUM poll”, the latter will be held responsibity. They also termed the development as `unfortunate`.
Meanwhile, the All Tribal Disabled Union Manipur (ATDUM) has expressed its appreciation to ATSUM president Muan Tombing and Vareiyo Shatsang for leading the tribal students to the right path. ATDUM said the manifesto of ATSUM is beneficial for the disabled people of Manipur. “We will continue to lend our support to the ATSUM,” ATDUM pledged.
