IMPHAL, June 6: Expressing dissatisfaction over members of Autonomous District Council of Chandel District, village chiefs are all set to launch various forms of agitations including setting offices on fire, if ADC members continue with actions against wishes of the public.
Elaborating on corrupt practices of ADC members of Chandel at a press meet organised jointly by village chiefs of various villages under the Machi and Tengnoupal block of the district at H Kolenphai Community hall, Pallel today, Th Guite, VP of All Tribal Chiefs and Grievances Forum said that a total of 24 ADC members were appointed following the election of district council in the hill areas under the government of Manipur.
He further alleged that the ADCs members of the Chandel are today involved in actions which are against the welfare and wishes of the people, which is not seen in any other districts.
It is very shameful that representatives of the people demand their share of food against the people, he continued.
On the other hand, it was said that ADC members committed such malpractices as the government of Manipur has not devolved their due powers, he continued.
It is not cited in the guidelines of MGNREGS scheme that the quota of ADC members should be reserved, he said.
He further said that the government should take the responsibility of the malpractices being committed by ADC members since the wrong policy of the government led to a fracas between the public and ADC members.
SK Aangsel, general secretary of Naga Chief Association, Tengnoupal Block said that MGNREGS scheme was properly implemented in Chandel District but election of ADC members following the district council election has caused problems for the public and the job card holders.
He expressed dissatisfaction that such undesirable problems happen only in Chandel district while other districts of the state are free of such problems.
Besides, he revealed that they never received the total amount of the material component and the amount should be paid off at the earliest.
