IMPHAL, June 5: Friends, supporters and well-wishers of 22 year old Manipuri girl who was found dead in a mysterious manner inside her Chirag Delhi rented room on May 29, have demanded justice from the Delhi and Central governments at the earliest.

A press statement issued by the Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Delhi has said that several organizations from across the country and well wishers will be holding a candle light vigil and protest at Jantar Mantar on June 6 at 6:30pm.

The statement while highlighting the series of incidents since the dead body of the young woman was recovered from her rented room, has also put in a series of demands.

The statement further continued that the deceased’s relatives had submitted a complaint letter to the SHO, Malviya Nagar Police Station on May 29, charging the “landlord and his brother-in-law of sexually assaulting and murdering ” the girl.

It has further said that the relatives had also informed the police that the brother-in-law of the landlord was stalking and harassing the deceased and specifically over the weekend  (25-26th May), the landlord had called her repeatedly, however, the SHO of the Police Station Malviya Nagar had refused to file an FIR.

“After three days of sustained pressure on May 31, the Malviya Nagar Police finally lodged an FIR under Section 306, which is abetment to suicide. This is in complete disregard of the preliminary post-mortem report, which does not mention the cause of her death and against the wishes of the family”, it said.

It further continued that locals of Chirag DIlli had threatened well-wishers at a candle light vigil held near the rented room on June 1 saying that “if any of the local boys was investigated/ picked up by the police then those from the North East living in that area would face consequences”.

The demands placed by the organizations and well wishers include, calling upon the Govt of Delhi and Govt of India to ensure that justice is done; the present FIR filed by the Malviya Nagar Police Station Delhi without taking into consideration the complainants’ letter be retracted and a fresh FIR be filed alleging sections 302(Murder) and 304(Culpable Homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and serious attention must be paid to the  discrepancies between the first and the second Post Mortem reports.

Further according to the statement, the demands also include that the suspects– the landlord and his brother-in-law– should be arrested and thoroughly questioned; all the institutions involved speed up the process of investigation and justice be delivered and in this regard, the viscera report should come out as soon as possible; action to be taken against the Police officials of the Malviya Nagar Police Station for refusing to file an FIR  and action to be taken against the residents of Chirag Dilli who said on 1st June 2013 at a candle light vigil that if any of their men were investigated, they will take ‘action’ and thus threatened the relatives and supporters of the deceased and people of Northeast

The demands also include request to the Crime Branch Delhi to look into “pamphlet” circulated in Hindi by Chirag Dilli men folk regarding the death and threats given to friends of the deceased on June 3 and ensure all protection be given to them and to ensure the safety, security of all the people from North Eastern who are living, working and studying in Delhi be treated equally without any discrimination and ensure justice is done, it said.
