CPI volunteers to storm state Assembly on June 20 declares M Nara

IMPHAL, June 15: The June struggle of Communist Party of India (CPI) has begun today and as part of the struggle, volunteers joining the struggle will storm the Manipur Legislative Assembly located at Chingmeirong, Imphal on several issues confronting the state.

This was stated by Dr M Nara Singh, secretary of CPI, Manipur State Council (MSC) during a press meet at Irabot Bhavan located at BT Road, Imphal today.

Alleging the Ibobi led state government of being directionless, he claimed that the state is reeling under immense untold miseries.

Stating that there is nobody to protect vehicles along the two national highways which are lifelines of Manipur, he claimed several demands have been made to vehicles plying along the two highways where drivers, handymen and civilians suffer casualties and continue to face fatal incidents.

On the other hand, the Public Distribution System (PDS) items such as kerosene and rice are not available to the public and with regard to government employees, 12 months salaries for the employees of Minor Irrigation Department have not been paid, he said.

He continued that it is over one year that honorariums of Anganwadi workers and helpers of centrally-sponsored scheme ICDS have not been paid off.

Nara reiterated that the June struggle of CPI demands abolishment of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 and save Sharmila, hold peace talks with underground organisations without any condition, implement Inner-Line Permit System to maintain territorial integrity, root out drug trafficking, families of ruling parties not to get involved in drug trafficking, make laws to curb bandh, blockade along the highways, lifelines of Manipur, not to privatise health and power sector, provide 35 kg of rice to a family at Rs 2/kg every month and set up fast track courts to hold trial on crimes against women.

He further informed that pressing for the said demands, the party will storm the Assembly hall.

N Mangi Singh, chairman of Campaign Committee of June Struggle also attended the press meet.

He said that the first phase of the struggle was launched at Yumjao Lairembi community hall located at Keishampat Junction today and the second phase will be taken up at Khangabok of Thoubal District on June 17 while Manipur Legislative Assembly will be stormed on June 20 as the third phase of the struggle.
