IMPHAL, June 16: Demands for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit System in the state continued today with several separate sit in protests staged at different localities in the state.
Demanding the implementation of the ILP in the state, the Kabui Mothers Association held a sit in protest at Kakhulong while locals of Kongba also held another sit in protest at kongba Bazar today.
Speaking to media persons, KAMA president Kakomlunglu Kameisaid ILP must be implemented in the state at the earliest to preserve the indigenous people of the state.
She said that the outsiders have today outnumbered the population of the indigenous people. It is a right time to implement ILP in the state, she said.
She continued that the Kabui Mother Association will take part in all the activities held by the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit in demands for implementstion of ILP in the State.
Meanwhile, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System has said in a press release that the committee warmly welcome the reaffirmation of reintroduction of Inner Line Permit System by the government with the resolution on reintroduction of Inner Line Permit System being adopted by the House once again on June 13 and the government understanding the wishes of the public in the wake of the adoption of resolution on ILP by Manipur Legislative Assembly on July 13 following a thorough discussion.
Stating that though the resolution on ILP was reaffirmed, the committee lacks confidence that the existing government will implement the resolution, it informed that the agitations over reintroduction of ILP system being launched by the public under the leadership of JCILPS will continue though there are some changes.
It further appealed to the public to extend support to various forms of agitations to be taken up by JCILPS.
A press release jointly signed by M. Purnimashi, President, CHITUWA, Th. Lamani, President, NUPISAMAS, Ph. Sakhi, President, AMKIL, S Ibetombi,WAVAK, President, AK. Memcha, President, KWWA, President and S Momon, President, Tami-Chingmi lamented the government’s failure to implement ILP system in Manipur threatening that if failure to implement ILP system in Manipur leads to untoward incidents, the government will be held responsible.
Meanwhile, a sit-in-protests over the demand for reintroduction of Inner Line Permit in Manipur was staged at Don Bosco Langjing, Immanual Yaingangpokpi and Leishemba Maheikol, Chingarel Tejpur under the aegis of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System, Students’ Wing.
