IMPHAL, June 30: Concerned with the recent grenade attack on education institutes including the Comet Higher Secondary School, the Democratic Students’ Alliance, Manipur has announced that the student body will organise simultaneous protest rallies at three districts of the state on July 5.
DESAM president W Islamuddin while condemning the bomb attacks on the educational institutes by non-state actors, has demanded a “Disruption free education zone in the state”.
He was speaking to media persons at the student body’s Keishampat office today.
He lamented that threatening educational institutes by placing grenades and making monetary demands has today become an easy way to earn money for the non-state actors of the state.
Such organizations should find other means to make money and leave the education institutes from making their targets and instead they should try to find out the flaws in the running of the institutes and try to correct it for the betterment of the students and the society, he said.
He appealed against all concerned to stop targeting educational institutes for easy money as education plays an important role in the development of the society.
Such threats create a fear psychosis amongst the student community, he said before demanding a free zone for education with a vision for the future.
Secretary DESAM, A Thoithoi said that from the time DESAM was formed the student organisation has always condemned such types of treat Like lobbing bomb, firing guns and monetary demand on educational Institutes of the state; and DESAM continue to strongly condemn such treat he said.
Saying that the DESAM will organise the protest rally on July 5, he has appealed to all passenger service plying in the state to help in free transportation of all individuals wanting to take part in the protest rally.
