IMPHAL, June 3: The Estimate Committee of the Manipur Legislative Assembly led by its chairman Dr N Bijoy and including other members accompanied by officials of the PWD and a team of media persons today inspected the widening work along the National Highway 150 today.
The team visited till Bishnupur and returned back to Imphal.
Speaking to media persons at the end of the inspection tour at his Old Assembly office chamber, Ng Bijoy said the widening of the highway has been undertaken considering the interest of the people and development of the state.
Today’s inspection tour was organized to check whether the report submitted to the Ministry of Roads and Transport by the state government on the project tallies with the actual work undertaken, he said.
He continued there is a need to inspect and ascertain whether the widened parts of the road are strong enough.
He further continued that trees growing along the said highways will be preserved.
Meanwhile, a contractor accompanying the team told media persons at the inspection spot that the work is to widen the road by two and a half metre each on both sides of the road, however the contractors have decided to widen it by 3 metre each on both sides.
