IMPHAL, June 22: The All Manipur Muslim Students’ Organization and family members have demanded unconditional release of a 17 year old student who was allegedly apprehended by a combined team of police commandos and 40 Assam Rifles on June 20 at around 11:30 pm from his own residence on charges of being a PULF cadre without issuing any arrest memo.
Speaking to media persons at a press meet held today at AMMSO office at Hatta Golapati, the father of the arrested student, Yumkhaibam Mujibur (41), of Heiyangthang Tarahei Koinjin Chingya Awang Leikai said that on June 20 at around 11:30 pm, a combined team of security forces came to his residence.
His wife Thoibi opened the door to find Assam Rifles personnel in full uniform surrounding their house, he said and continued that after entering the house, the Assam Rifles personnel searched every room.The personnel later asked about his son’s room and forcefully took his son without issuing over any arrest memo, the father maintained.
The next day early morning, his son was handed over to Wangoi police station in Imphal West district on charges of being an active member of a banned outfit People United Liberation Front (PULF) with some letterheads of the organization and one hand grenade, he said.
He claimed that his son is a student who had recently passed his class 12 examination conducted by the COHSEM from Little Master School, Samurou.
During the time of his son’s arrest, nothing was recovered from his possession and it a conspiracy by his neighbor who wants to take revenge against his family, the father maintained.
His neighbor identified as Md Mazar Haji was arrested by police on June 12 following a complaint from his family members after the latter allegedly shot at her wife Thoibi with his double barrel licensed gun injuring her, he said while adding that Md Mazar recently got out on bail on medical ground.
AMMSO president Farid Khan said that the student body condemned the act of the combined forces who allegedly apprehended the innocent student without handing over any arrest memo.
In regard to the matter, a memorandum will be submitted to the Chief Minister and Home Minister as well and if the state government failed to take up any action at the earliest they will also submit memorandum to the Centre and the concerned Ministry of Minority Affairs, the student leader added.
