`Harvest Rain Water` -Dean CAU

IMPHAL, June 16: “Water is associated with farmers, and if there is abundance of water throughout the year, then there will be no problem for the farmers” said Dr N Iboton Singh, Dean of Central Agriculture University (CAU), and added “the rain water should be harvested in the raining season.”

Central Agriculture University in association with Umurou Loukon Lup, Khangabok Part II has today organised a training programme in which Professor Dr N Iboton Singh was on the dais as chief guest. He further said that farmers should practice agricultural activity in a way to generate sustainable economy. Traditionally method of agricultural practice will meet our food demand and further added that application of technology in agricultural practice will give abundance of food thereby overcoming the poor family condition.

The Dean furthermore informed the farmers that non-testing of soil in their respective field will result poor yielding and continued that soil testing can check the soil health thereby preventing it from worsening. Using UREA in high quantity can only help decrease of soil fertility. Meanwhile he maintained that farmers require a joint planning for water harvesting, pest management and planning for high yield variety as cultivable land is now decreasing and at the same time population is visibly increasing.

On pest management discussion, associate Professor in Entomology of CAU, Dr Kh Ibohal Singh has said that timely management will solve pest problem while saying that use of organic manure will decrease pest problem. This entomologist also demonstrated some simple pest management techniques.

Plant Pathologist of the same university, associate Professor Dr RK Tombisana Singh has also delivered his lecture on ‘pest problem and its prevention method.’ A number of 150 farmers were attended in the function.
