IMPHAL, June 26: The House passed a total of Rs 527, 17, 07, 000 for three demands on the 13th day of the 5th session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly which had commenced from June 10.
Demands passed by the House are tabled by the leader of the House, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh who also holds the Finance portfolio for discussion.
The demands tabled today were Demand No. 6 for transport amounting to Rs. 6, 54, 41, 000, Demand No. 8 for public works department amounting to Rs. 488, 65, 96, 000 and Demand No. 50 for information technology amounting to Rs. 31, 96, 70, 000.
When the demands were presented for discussion, three MLAs raised the Motion for Disapproval of Policy Cut on failure to adopt a policy of public transport system in Manipur, failure to check the increasing number of stolen vehicles coming inside Manipur, non-introduction of city bus service within Imphal and Imphal Municipal areas, failure to establish district transport offices in all the hill districts and failure to implement the process of providing high security registration number plates. The MLAs are Dr. I. Ibohalbi Singh, L. Ibomcha Singh and Samuel Rison.
During the discussion on Demand No 8 for Public Works Department, MLA Dr I Ibohalbi Singh, L Ibomcha Singh, Th Shyamkumar, P Brojen Singh, Dikho, Kh Joykisan and Samuel Rison raised the motion for disapproval of policy cut on failure to widen and improve roads of the NHs of the state, failure to reconstruct the Nganapithong bridge along Khagempalli road, non-maintenance of suspension bridges of the state, failure to properly maintain laying of roads according to their specifications, failure to maintain national highway No. 2, failure to monitor the present/up-to-date condition of roads, failure to provide more fund for hills and failure to improve better road connectivity in the hills.
When Demand No. 50 for information technology was under discussion, MLA Th. Shyamkumar and Samuel Rison moved the motion for disapproval of policy cut on failure to provide awareness programmes to the general public concerning information technology and failure to establish IT centres in all the hill district headquarters.
However, following detailed clarifications over cut motions by concerned ministers who tabled the demands in the House, the cut motions were withdrawn. The House approved the withdrawal of cut motions and passed the amount for the demands.
