Imphal Moreh road bandh affects normal life

IMPHAL, June 11: Normal life has been affected by the 24 hour Chakka bandh called by the Kuki Students Organisation Chandel District and Naga Students Union Chandel along the Imphal Moreh stretch of National Highway No. 2 which began from midnight of June 10, in Chandel District today.

The bandh which has been called in protest against the indifferent attitude of the Board of Secondary Education Manipur for not allowing the 6928 students to appeare in High School Leaving Certificate Examination  for two consecutive years in 2012 and 2013.

During the bandh, vehicles were off the road due to the bandh enforcers blocking the stretch of National Highway No. 2 at several locations along the Highway by burning tyres, piling  woods and boulders. Howerever, there is  no report of  any  untoward incident during the bandh till the filing of this report.

Speaking at the sidelines of the Bandh, Shri SR. Joyningam Caretaker President of the Naga Students Union, Chandel said that the Baord of Secondary Education Manipur without considering the academic career of the students barred 6928 students from appearing in the HSLC Examination for two consecutive years in 2012 and 2013 in violation of Right to Education Act.

He further said that if the concerned authority, particularly the Board of Secondary Education Manipur did not responsd positively, the two student bodies will continue with more intense forms of agitation till their demands were fulfiled.

While briefing the media persons at Tengnoupal, Shri T. Thokhongam Haokip, President of the Kuki Students Organisation, Tengnoupal Block said that the demand of the student bodies is to allow the left out students to appear in the HSLC Examination by conducting a special Examination for them.

The demands of the student bodies also include accepting the list of students submitted by the school authorities and allotting the registration numbers to them and conducting a special HSLC Examination for these 6928 left out students along with Compartmental Candidates of 2013.
